Artist's Comments

I started looking at the work of Salvador Dali and so I was inspired to create something magnificent. I had a basic sketch of the hand and eye done but all the rest was though of as I went along. I spent more time staring at the painting thinking of what to do than actual painting. I had no central message I wanted to express when I started. This painting really shows how in the last year I have become more aware of my place as an artist and my responsibility as an artist to create work that evokes deep emotions across a wide specturm of personalities. I have never done an oil piece this large and complex and it was a great opportunity to hone my oil skills for the pieces I plan to create next. There was one additonal ingredient and that is carpenter ants which were used for the foliage on the tree at left.

August 4th: Updated version larger size and the final signed version. More ants and some minor tweaks.

March 4th: Reversed image because after staring at this image for 9 months it doesn't carry the weight that it would for someone looking at it for the first time.

Man, that's awesome especially considering you used oils. I dig it! it's way cooler than anything associated with grateful dead.

well, you tried to create something magnificent, and you definitely acheived just that, magnificent. the variety of the colors, and their vivacious hues provide so much warmth and sheer interest. your attention to detail is really staggering, there is not one spot on this canvas that looks like it needs touch-ups, every square inch looks as though is has been carefully manicured and refined. also, the eye flow in this is really great too, it really holds hte viewers attention for 5, 10, 30 minutes, just to make sure that the viewers has absorbed eah and every minute detail. i love each and every subject - rather, each and every brushstroke - in this painting; this is really a wonderful surreal piece. the honey-comb pattern/cube/hexagon pattern from escher, dali-like trees and subjects, and a divine mystique about this whole piece that gets my subconsious so excited. you are truly a wonderful painter, and i sure hope to see more work from you in the future! and, hey! you live like 10 minutes from my house! maybe i'll see you in some exhibit around town! keep up the GREAT work!

I love Dali's work, and his trade mark moustache. I'm incredibly impressed with this, it's beautiful. I think you should do more trippy, surreal and Dali inspired work, most definately.
:icondeathofwinter:
Dali is my all time favorite artist, and as i can see, you have learned alot about his style from me simply reading your description. he says that all of his paintings come together spontaniously and that is what you expressed here. i can see alot of his work shown in yours, like the two men and the ball on the bottom, the ants, and how all the colors blend and just how every where you look, something new is forming. i really look up to you as a roll model on this piece! it blows my mind and hopefully someday when i work with oils that i can meet expectations that i set as i look at your work. i am very anxious to see more of your work. i completely just blows my mind. i love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you very much for the kind words. This painting is just the beginning. I'm moving to Montreal in two weeks to start painting full time, I have about 15 or so ideas I have been refining the last couple of months it's just that they are so large and complex I have to wait until I can dedicate my time 100% to working on them if I want to complete them in a timely fashion. I'm so happy to hear I inspire you to achieve greatness, that is one of my central missions as an artist.
